A committee of nine scientists, two from BGS and seven from outside, review projects, accept new proposals and advise the Executive Director of BGS on policy. The committee meets twice a year in the spring and autumn. The BGS staff who manage the project are publishing scientists and have extensive experience of international project management and successful PhD supervision.
After the meetings the committee make recommendations on which proposals should be supported from BUFI funds. They not only ensure that the subject matter is appropriate, both aligned to the BGS mission and represent relevant current research, but ensure quality and excellence is maintained.
Membership of the committee is by invitation and further expansion of the committee is planned to ensure a fully balanced view. We are currently interested to find people who have expertise in medical geology and the use of Earth science in policy development
